2015
Preparations for the 11th World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship continue in St Petersburg
From 5 to 10 September 2015, St. Petersburg will host the XI World Championship in Fire and Rescue Sport. The sporting battles will unfold at the city's main sports arena - Petrovsky Stadium. The Championship Opening Ceremony will be held at the Palace Square, the very heart of the Northern Capital. Besides a big concert program there will be a show and final runs of the sportsmen with climbing up the stairs on the training tower and awarding of the winners of the first competition day. A training tower will be specially installed on the main square of the city for the sportsmen to demonstrate their skills by climbing it. A second tower of the same kind will appear at the Petrovsky Stadium.
A working group was set up that included representatives from each subdivision of the St. Petersburg garrison. The rescuers had to undergo special training. It took more than a day to build such impressive structures. And now the unique training fire towers are almost ready for the upcoming championship. They are bound to become one of the main characters and symbols of the Championship. After all, climbing up the stairs in the training tower window is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and dynamic disciplines that make up the competitions in fire and rescue sports. It is breathtaking to watch athletes soar to heights of more than 12m up the tower facade in a matter of seconds after covering a distance of 30 to 12m. The record in this discipline belongs to Russia's Albert Loginov. At the 2012 World Championships in Antalya, Albert climbed the assault ladder into the fourth-floor window of the training tower in just 12.56 seconds.
