Summing up the results of the main world event - the XVIII World Championship among men and the IX World Championship among women in fire and rescue sport

From August 31 to September 06, 2023 in the Turkish Republic, Istanbul, under the auspices of the International sport federation of firefighters and rescuers, the XVIII World Championship among men and the IX World Championship among women in fire and rescue sport were held.

23 sports teams took part in the competition, including 14 men's and 9 women's teams in fire and rescue sport. The strongest athletes of the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Cameroon, the People's Republic of China, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, the Russian Federation, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Uzbekistan came to the World Championship in Istanbul, to demonstrate their skills and accept challenge at the running tracks of Burhan Felek sports complex.

For four days, athletes competed for the title of world champions in climbing the assault ladder to the 2nd and 4th floors of the training tower, overcoming the 100-meter obstacle course, double-event, fire relay 4 x 100 meters and combat deployment.

On the first sports day of the World Championships – September 2, the strongest athletes of the world community of firefighters and rescuers came to the running tracks of the Turkish city of Istanbul to compete in climbing the assault ladder to the 2nd and 4th floors of the training tower. In the evening of the same day, the opening ceremony of the World Championships took place, participants and guests of the competition were greeted by the Mayor of Istanbul Mr. Ekrem Imamoğlu, the Head of the Fire Department of Istanbul Municipality Mr. Remzi Albayrak, the President of the International sport federation of firefighters and rescuers Mr. Alexander Chupriian, the Director of the International sport federation of firefighters and rescuers Mr. Andrey Kalinin, as well as the First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the chief judge of the competition Mr. Sanjar Zuparov.

At the festive concert, the audience and participants of the championships were pleased with the demonstration performances of dance groups of Istanbul, flag bearers and a parade of participating teams of countries that are part of the International sport federation of firefighters and rescuers. The tradition of lighting fires in stadiums was started at the summer games in 1928 in Amsterdam. Following the ancient tradition of the Olympic Sports Movement, the olympic flame of the World Championships was lit in a solemn atmosphere at the opening of the World Championships in Istanbul.

As part of the grand opening of the World Championships, the semifinal and final races of the first day of the competition were held. In a hard and persistent struggle, the names of world champions in one of the brightest and most dynamic disciplines of fire and rescue sports – climbing the assault ladder – were determined. The residents of Istanbul watched with interest how the athletes quickly and confidently climbed through the window of the 4th floor and overcame obstacles. The coordination of all actions, courage and fearlessness in front of heights – brought everyone into a stormy delight!

Nikita Ukolov, a representative of the national team of the Republic of Belarus, became the winner among men in the discipline of climbing the assault ladder, with a result of 13.00 seconds, and won a gold medal. Silver and bronze medals also went to athletes from Belarus – Anton Tarasevich and Vitaly Bobr.

The struggle of the fair sex was especially exciting. Viktoria Tishkevich (Republic of Belarus) stood on the top step of the podium with a result of 7.20 seconds, Jairona Abduvaitova (Republic of Uzbekistan) became the silver medalist, Ekaterina Chendakova won bronze.

The following days, sports competitions were also held at the Turkish stadium, where spectators and athletes were waiting for unpredictable races.

On September 3, the participants competed in overcoming the 100-meter obstacle course.

In overcoming the 100-meter obstacle course, Ilya Naumov from the Republic of Belarus showed the best result (15.43 seconds), Evgeny Rabtsevich from the Republic of Belarus took the second place, Abdulvasit Rakhmanov (Republic of Uzbekistan) took the third place. The obstacle course was also conquered by the fair sex. As a result of a hard struggle, Maria Kataseva (Russian Federation) won with a result of 15.97 seconds. Ekaterina Chendakova (Russian Federation) is in the second place. The third place was won by Valeria Furik from the Republic of Belarus.

During all the days of the championships, world and national records were set on the sports tracks, a considerable part of which belongs to the current participants. In addition to joyful events, there were losses and upsets as well, but nothing could affect the friendly atmosphere between the athletes or overshadow the celebration of the World Championships.

So, in the discipline of overcoming the 100-meter obstacle course in the semifinals Ms. Ekaterina Chendakova (Russian Federation) set a new world record - 15.45 seconds. Ekaterina also set a record in the personal championship in the discipline of duathlon – 21.81 seconds. In the individual championship in the discipline of duathlon Mr. Alexander Fokin (Russian Federation) became the world champion among men with a result of 28.26 seconds.

Following the results of the competition in the discipline of the fire relay on September 4, the men's national team of the Republic of Uzbekistan won a gold medal. The men's national team of the People's Republic of China won silver. The bronze medal was awarded to the team from the Republic of Kazakhstan. Among the women's national teams, the women's national team of the Russian Federation took the first step of the podium. The women's national team of the Republic of Belarus is in the second place. The bronze medal was taken home by the women's national team of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On the last day of the competition on September 5, the winners and prize-winners in the combat deployment were determined. Among the men's national teams, athletes of the People's Republic of China took the first place on the podium. The second place and the silver medal of the men's national team from the Republic of Kazakhstan, the bronze was won by the men's national team of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Representatives of the fair sex of the Republic of Belarus vividly demonstrated their beauty and grace in the combat deployment, they confidently won ahead of the national teams of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.

According to the results of all the days of the competition, the names of the world champions were determined in a hard and persistent struggle.

1st place – the Republic of Uzbekistan
2nd place – the Republic of Kazakhstan
3rd place – the Russian Federation

On the evening of September 5, the closing ceremony of the XVIII World Championship among men and the IX World Championship among women in fire and rescue sport took place. The winners and prize-winners were awarded with medals, diplomas, valuable gifts and cups. The culmination of the closing ceremony was the transfer of the flag of the International sport federation of firefighters and rescuers from the hosts of the XVIII World Championship among men and IX World Championship among women in fire and rescue sport of the Republic of Turkey to the organizers of the next World Championship in 2024 - the People's Republic of China.

It is worth noting that throughout all the competition days, the athletes waged an honest and uncompromising struggle and showed the highest results in all types of the program.
